Patient: “Doctor, I think I’ve got low blood sugar.” Doctor: “Get a tattoo!”

Now first things first, This kind of tattoo wouldn’t be a tattoo in the traditional sense, indeed there is no connection between being inked and a rise in blood glucose levels. No this tattoo would dye a patient’s skin a yellowy-orange colour and would last for about a week. The tattoo would then get lighter or darker if glucose levels changed and could be detected through a special handheld camera. The hope is that mobile phone companies would then develop an app for smart phones which would be able to read this information and tell the patient his glucose level. Scientists say that too few patients are checking their glucose levels, and that the tattoo would be more appealing than pricking your finger on a regular basis. However an actual tattoo diagnosis is certainly still a few years away.

Amanda Seyfried puts her foot in it!?

Amanda Seyfried Tattoo

You have probably already heard about Amanda Seyfried’s tattoo. Now a lot of people decide to get their nickname or something related to their nickname tattooed on themselves, and Amanda’s ink certainly fits into this.  As she puts it: “It’s a nickname, it’s evolved into kind of an endearing term, a term of endearment. I don’t really take that many things seriously so I thought, ‘Hey, why not?’ I wanted to know what a tattoo felt like. I got it in October, and a couple of us have it.”

So how did this nickname come about? well according to Amanda ‘…Colin Firth used to say that word on set and Rachel (McDowell) had to explain to me what it meant.
‘So it’s on my foot. It’s to make me laugh, and every time I look at it I do.’

So what is this word that she has inked on her foot? well it begins with M and rhymes with hinge……

Optimistic Football Tattoo

Unfortunate Tattoo

It’s August 2009, Manchester City have spent big in the summer and commentators and pundits are evaluating their chances of finishing in the Champions League places. Tottenham had also spent big as had Aston Villa and strength in depth at Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal also meant qualification was certainly be going to be a tight affair. Dedicated fan Keith Bradley however believes not only that Manchester City will qualify for the Champions League but that they will go all the way and win it the following year.

As Keith Bradley himself explains: “While I was in the pub one night I was saying how I thought we’d win the Champions League next season and my friend turned to me and said ‘if you’re so sure why don’t you have it tattooed?’

“He was obviously joking, so you can imagine his face when I turned around and said ‘OK then’.

Back in August Tattooist John Logan, from Logan’s Cave, based in Kingstanding, Birmingham, said it was one of the most unusual requests he’d ever had for a tattoo.

“It certainly was a strange request,” he said.

“I’ve done other football fans who had their team’s badges tattooed but never anything like this. “Kirk has got to be one of the most optimistic football fans ever.”

9 Months later and Tottenham beat Manchester City, Aston Villa and Liverpool to the highly coveted fourth Champions League slot, and Keith is most probably left with a mixture of disappointment and embarrassment.
